UWM’s Student Support Services Program’s (SSS) Summer Bridge provides academic preparation for new freshmen admitted to SSS who will benefit most from improvement in their math, reading and/or writing skills. Bridge also provides an opportunity to get to know other new freshmen and become familiar with the UWM campus and its resources.
Bridge students take only those courses needed to improve math, reading and/or writing skills prior to beginning their fall coursework. These courses, as well as the UWM 101 course, meet for one hour each day, Monday-Friday, for four weeks from July – August. There is no fee for the SSS Bridge program and it does not carry university credit. During the last week of bridge, students having taken English and/or math during Bridge will retake UWM’s placement tests. Those students testing into higher level courses, from which they had originally placed, may begin with the higher level course in fall, if the bridge instructor believes this to be in the student’s best interest.
