Peter Albrecht began his career in public transportation in 1973 as a coach operator for CAMBUS, the University of Iowa campus transit system. He subsequently held positions as General Manager or Director of several small urban transit systems in Iowa. In 1986, he began working for the North Carolina Department of Transportation Public Transportation Division (NCDOT/PTD) as an Urban Consultant, completing his career at NCDOT/PTD as Program Manager of Safety and Training. In addition, he is a member of the North Carolina State Emergency Response Team. He has been instrumental in creating the NCDOT/PTD System Safety Program Plan, which is a comprehensive safety program used by all of the Community Transportation systems in North Carolina.
Mr. Albrecht has served on the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) Rural Transit Assistance Program (RTAP) National Program Review Board, the Safety and Security Task Force of the Standing Committee on Public Transportation of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO). He also has been a member of the FTA Transit Bus Safety and Security Working Group, which is developing a national initiative for transit safety and security designed to provide assistance to small urban and rural transit systems in the areas of safety, security and emergency preparedness.
Mr. Albrecht has been active in the public transportation industry as a curriculum and content reviewer for several safety and security training programs, and is a Certified Training and Safety Reviewer (CTSR) under the Community Transportation Association of America’s Training and Safety Review Program. He continues to work as a trainer and content reviewer for rural transit safety and security programs.
