Carolyn Esswein

Adjunct Faculty

Carolyn J Esswein, AICP

Carolyn has assisted communities plan for the future, create long-term visions, and implement those concepts for nearly 20 years. Her clients include towns, villages, and cities throughout Wisconsin with planning efforts ranging from on-going planning services, comprehensive and redevelopment plans, sustainable development practices, park planning, to managing specific projects for special districts.

Carolyn’s comprehensive and neighborhood planning projects have included multiple team members and subcontractors involved in economic analysis, stormwater planning, transportation planning, GIS, environmental analysis, and a wide variety of local issues. These plans often tackle difficult issues surrounding residential and commercial growth with a focus on smart growth to limit infrastructure costs for municipalities, as well as provide high quality places to live and work. Many of these plans promote investment and provide guidance for public and private development initiatives.

Ms. Esswein is an Associate with GRAEF and an adjunct professor at the School of Architecture and Urban Planning at UWM. Carolyn holds a Masters of Urban Planning and a Masters of Architecture from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and Bachelors of Science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
