The Castle of Elm Grove
The School Sisters of Notre Dame came to Wisconsin in 1850 and settled in Elm Grove. In 1898, the first building that they built, with the support of King Ludwig I of Bavaria, was an orphanage for girls. See the “castle,” featuring a chapel that was based on the ballroom of King Ludwig’s own castle, now a museum. It is listed on the Wisconsin Register of Historic Places.
