Test Center Procedures and Regulations

  • The test will be given on the day and at the time scheduled.
  • Every effort is made to begin tests on time. If a test runs too long, there is the possibility of interfering with another test. No late arrivals will be permitted into the testing room except in extreme circumstances. Late arrivals must reschedule. No test taker will be admitted after test materials have been distributed.
  • You will be assigned a seat.
  • Photo ID verification at the test center is required and may include a driver’s license, school ID, or state ID. For a comprehensive list see Photo ID Policy below. Without proper identification you will not be permitted to test. Acceptable identification is a valid driver’s license, valid active duty or reserve military ID, valid UWM identification card, passport or current employment ID with photo.

Photo ID Policy

In conjunction with Test Center standards to ensure that no students gain an advantage over other students and to protect the validity of the UW System placement scores for use by all students and colleges, UW-Milwaukee will not administer a test to any candidate who does not present proper identification.

Photo identification is required of all students using the Testing Center. Acceptable identification:

  • Valid driver’s license
  • Valid active duty or reserve military ID
  • Valid UWM identification card
  • Passport or current employment ID with photo

A university staff member may vouch for the identity of a candidate provided they are accompanied with the individual and can also provide a proper form of identification.

Placement Testing Policy for Military Personnel

Military personnel needing to take the Admission Test Series or UW System placement tests may request to have placement testing materials sent to their military base for administration. Test materials must be sent directly to an education officer on the base. The candidate should contact our New Freshman Testing Coordinator at 414-229-2210 to make arrangements.

Security Policy

The Testing Center is committed to maintaining the security of all exams, tests, quizzes, and answer keys for which it is responsible. Using the guidelines established by the Educational Testing Service, the following test security policy is in effect:

Storage, Access, and Disposition of Tests

All placement tests, scored tests and quiz answer keys, including faculty tests and quizzes, and National tests, are stored in locked cabinets. Access to these cabinets is limited to Testing Center personnel.

All incoming faculty tests are logged upon receipt and the log is updated to notate when the exam has been scored. For security purposes, the Testing Center does not return exams through intercampus mail. Scored exams may be picked up in person in our office.

 Testing irregularities
  • In the event that a testing irregularity occurs, the Testing Associate will make a judgment as to how the situation will be handled (for example, damaged test materials or blank pages).
  • In the event that a student is caught cheating, the test and all related papers will be taken from the student and the test will be invalidated. The staff person who made the discovery will make a written report. A copy of the report will be given to the listed institution if appropriate and a copy will be forwarded to the student’s advisor. If an incident cannot be confirmed but is strongly suspected, the student will be allowed to continue but removed from the testing room and placed in an isolated area.
Miscellaneous
  • National examinations are stored and administered according to the procedures outlined in the Supervisor’s Manual for each test.
  • Retests must follow retest guidelines for placement and National tests. Appeals to this retest policy are made through the math or English departments or testing company.

Cheating

The staff of the Testing Center and UW-Milwaukee are committed to academic honesty and excellence.

 UWM Student Conduct

UWM Placement Testing Program Cheating Policy

Academic dishonesty is inappropriate and unacceptable behavior and will not be tolerated during placement tests. Academic dishonesty includes (but is not limited to) the following:

  • Copying from another person’s test or sharing your own work with another examinee
  • Offering another person’s work as your own, such as having your test taken by someone else
  • Taking a test for another person
  • Possessing or using unauthorized materials, prepared notes or answers keys during a test
  • Stealing or attempting to steal a test booklet or answer key, or leaving the room with scratch paper

Students may be dismissed from the testing room or may have their scores canceled if they fail to follow any of the testing instructions given by the test proctors or those outlined below:

  • Remain quiet throughout the exam. Whispering, talking, writing or any form of communication with other students during an exam is never appropriate.
  • Remain in your chair until you finish the exam, unless you have permission from a proctor to leave the room.
  • Use only materials approved by the test administrators during the exam.
  • All testing materials should remain on your desk throughout the examination.
  • Stop all work when time has been called.
  • Turn in all examination materials (exam, scantron, scrap paper) before leaving the room.

Incidents of cheating will be recorded on your testing record and your academic advisor will be notified. The Dean of Students or Dean of your academic unit may also be notified if deemed appropriate by the Testing Center supervisor.

Testing Students with Disabilities Policy

According to The University of Wisconsin System Policy on Individuals with Disabilities, no qualified individual with a disability shall be denied access to or participation in any program, service, or activity offered by the universities. Individuals with disabilities have a right to request accommodations.

Please refer to our accommodated testing policy for more information on how to obtain accommodations for your test.

Children in the Testing Center

The University of Milwaukee Testing Center does not allow unattended children in the testing area. There are no facilities for childcare within the Testing Center. University policy prohibits leaving children unattended in any campus building. This policy is to allow for the equality and standardization for those testing and for the safety of the children.

Proper supervision of small children should be arranged off site prior to testing. We ask that candidates return when they have made arrangements for child care. The Testing Center sympathizes with students with limited resources but in order to be fair to everyone we have to strictly enforce this rule.
