This on-line course is designed to provide you with a comprehensive and realistic introduction to the police in America. Policing today is often very controversial. The course will provide an overall critical understanding of why this is the case. The course will also examine the role of the police in our society, police use of force, police decision-making, the effectiveness of the police, and will differentiate fact from fiction in important matters relating to the police, among other topics.
The grade for the course will be based on “take-home” quizzes/exams, an opinion that you provide on an issue, and an on-line discussion. The content of the course will include the book (the cover of the book is shown above), PowerPoint, and videos. If you have any questions about the course, please contact me. Thank you!
