Tuition Tax Credits and Deductions – Form 1098-T

Internal Revenue Service Form 1098-T is available annually, late January, for the most recent tax year ending December 31. You may want to refer to a sample Form 1098-T when reviewing this information.  Important UWM related information on Form 1098-T includes:

  • Box 2. The total amounts billed for qualified tuition and related expenses less any related reductions in charges.
  • Box 4. Adjustments made to prior year’s qualified tuition and related expenses previously reported on Form 1098-T.
  • Box 5. Total of all scholarships or grants administered and processed by UW-Milwaukee.
  • Box 6. Adjustments to scholarships or grants for a prior year. The terms included on Form 1098-T are UWinterIM, Spring, Summer and Fall.

Form 1098-T does not report amounts paid for qualified fees. Students are able to view and print financial activity on their PAWS account. Review each term you attended in the most recent tax year. If you paid your fees prior to the beginning of the term, you may need to check the previous term listed to find you payment information. Print a copy of your account for each term of qualified expenses paid. Keep this information with your tax records.

Receiving Your Form 1098-T

University of Wisconsin System will provide your Form 1098-T via download from University Accounting System LLC. (UAS) GetMyDocument.com web site.

Form 1098-T contains important tax information related to tuition and other information for the most recent tax year ending December 31. The information on this document may be required to complete your tax return and obtain federal and state tax benefits.

During January, you will receive information via email from UAS, email address 1098@eforms.uwsa.edu. The email includes instructions on how you can view and print your 1098-T tax document. In order to view and download Form 1098-T, you will be required to follow the instructions outlined in the email. The email has the following subject line: UW Milwaukee Form 1098T 2016 Tax Document Available

Retain the email for your records. Further access to this site requires a digital signature. If you return to this site, please use the digital signature number indicated in the email for UAS.
