UWM School of Freshwater Sciences is pioneer in Great Lakes research

At the School of Freshwater Sciences, students and faculty work on cutting-edge research that improves the lives of Milwaukeeans and helps urban dwellers around the world. UWM freshwater scientists are based in Milwaukee’s inner harbor – with labs five feet from Lake Michigan and the largest freshwater system on the Earth’s surface. UWM houses the Great Lakes’ only year-round research vessel, the Neeskay, and docks the EPA’s largest freshwater research vessel, the Lake Guardian. At UWM, Lake Michigan is truly a living laboratory.
