UWM roundtable discussion with Bernard Feringa, Nobel laureate in chemistry

Dutch chemist and Nobel laureate Bernard Feringa sat down with UWM faculty members to discuss the importance of science education and inspiring students.

Douglas Stafford, director of the Milwaukee Institute for Drug Discovery and Marija Gajdardziska-Josifovska, dean of the Graduate School, joined Feringa in a panel discussion moderated by Kathy Mykleby, an anchor at WISN 12 Milwaukee.

Feringa’s work earned him a share the 2016 Nobel Prize in chemistry. With Jean-Pierre Sauvage and Sir J. Fraser Stoddart, he was recognized for contributions to the design and synthesis of molecular-scale machines.

Feringa is the Jacobus van ’t Hoff Distinguished Professor of Molecular Sciences at the University of Groningen, Netherlands, and chair of the board of the science division of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Sciences. He holds more than 30 patents.
