In April 2016, UWM became the first UW System school to earn the U.S. Department of Education Green Ribbon Schools Award. This award was due to the hard work of many dedicated people at UWM and became an emblematic insignia for the university.
UWM is also proud to be named a Gold Bicycle Friendly Campus by the League of American Bicyclists, a Tree Campus USA by the Arbor Day Foundation and have a gold rating from the AASHE STARS program, which assesses sustainability across education, research, operations, planning, administration and innovation.
