Anne Basting wins MacArthur Fellowship

Anne Basting has made her career by melding diverse disciplines in unexpected ways. This video showcases TimeSlips, the seemingly magical program Anne created that brings those with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia into the world of improvisation, “replacing the pressure to remember with the freedom to imagine.”

Basting is a 2016 MacArthur Fellow, the first UWM faculty member to earn the esteemed MacArthur Foundation’s highest honor. She is the sixth person to earn a fellowship while living in Wisconsin, and the first since Milwaukee’s Will Allen, founder of Growing Power, was honored in 2008.
