UWM women roll to win in Horizon League tourney opener

UWM’s women’s basketball team advanced to the semifinals of the Horizon League Tournament with a 82-63 win over Oakland at Detroit’s Joe Louis Arena. The fifth-seeded Panthers, now 20-10 for the season, face top-seeded UW-Green Bay noon Monday in a game broadcast on ESPN3.

Jenny Lindner led UWM with 19 points, while Steph Kostowicz added 16 points and 10 rebounds. Bailey Farley and Alexis Lindstrom also scored in double digits for the Panthers with 14 and 12 points, respectively.

Oakland had swept both regular-season games from the Panthers. But UWM was in control for most of this game, leading 41-32 at halftime and upping the advantage to 65-39 after three quarters.

“We played with toughness,” said UWM coach Kyle Rechlicz. “I thought we played as a team, and I thought our focus was great from start to finish.”
