UWM students join senior citizens for art show

University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee students and residents of Eastcastle Place are joining forces for their first joint art exhibition, called the “Living Room Gallery Show,” at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2, at Eastcastle Place, 2425 N. Lake Drive.

Ian McGibbon, one of UWM’s Student Artists in Residence, lives at Eastcastle Place and is coordinating the show. The gallery will feature work by residents of the home, current UWM students, recent graduates and local artists.

After the opening, the gallery will be open by appointment, with new artworks rotating in regularly, according to Laura Wengler, director of community lifestyle services at Eastcastle. To view the gallery after the opening night, contact McGibbon at mcgibbon@uwm.edu or Wengler at 414-963-8408.

The Student Artists in Residence program brings students from UWM together with older adults to create art. The program is a collaboration between the Peck School of the Arts and the Center for Student-Based Learning, Leadership and Research.
