UWM recognized for veterans support services

UW-Milwaukee has received the UW Veterans Education and Transition to Success Certification. The VETS Certification recognizes UWM’s commitment to helping student veterans succeed through a wide range of supportive services.

More student veterans attend UWM than any other campus in the Midwest. Student veterans at UWM shared nearly $23 million of tuition in 2016 throughout the UW System funded under the Wisconsin G.I. Bill.

UWM’s Military and Veterans Resource Center helps student veterans transition from military to civilian life. It is a unique supportive service that helps veterans meet and connect to campus resources.

“UWM excels at identifying military and veteran students’ needs,” said Sarah M. Terry, assistant director of campus engagement at MAVRC. “We address those needs.”

The resource center also helps student veterans find paid internships. It facilitates training programs for student veterans and educates employers about the challenges veterans face in the workplace.

UW-Green Bay, UW-Madison, UW-Stevens Point, UW-Superior and UW-Whitewater also received the certification for their commitment to supporting student veterans.
