UWM professor wins digital design education award

Mark Keane, professor of architecture, has received a national award from the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture for a digital architectural education program, www.NEXT.cc. Professor Linda Keane of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago shares the award, which is given to architectural educators for exemplary work in building design, community collaborations, scholarship and service.

UWM and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago are among the sponsors of www.NEXT.cc, which is an online program on design, offered without charge to schools and individuals around the world.  The program is an informal, e-learning experience that lets K-12 students explore a variety of design areas through interactive curriculum blocks, termed “journeys.” Next.cc includes links to virtual field trips, interactive museum presentations and apps about contemporary art, science, design, architecture and environmental practices.

The focus is on encouraging young people to think about sustainable design for their communities, according to Mark Keane.

The Keanes will accept their award at the organization’s annual conference in Denver March 16.
