Schneider was honored for his work in helping to make Wisconsin a better place to ride a bicycle. He conducts research on safety, facility evaluation and the demand for active transportation. In his work, he has found bike commuting is becoming more popular in many cities across the nation.

Schneider played key roles in two recent National Cooperative Highway Research Program projects that provide guidance on pedestrian and bicycle counting and project prioritization. His local research also analyzes pedestrian and bicycle crashes in Wisconsin and physical health benefits of bicycling in Milwaukee.

He has served as chair of the Transportation Research Board Committee on Pedestrians since 2014.
