UWM hosts Student Health Insurance Enrollment Fair on Nov. 1

Many young adults in America do not have health insurance, which can put them at risk for medical debt and significant health problems.

On Wednesday, Nov. 1, UW-Milwaukee is teaming up with the City of Milwaukee Health Department and the nonprofit Covering Wisconsin to inform uninsured UWM students and community members about their insurance options ahead of the Dec. 15 enrollment deadline for federal insurance or “marketplace” programs.

Taking place in the UWM Union ballroom from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, the UWM Student Health Insurance Enrollment Fair will bring certified application counselors and health care navigators to campus for one-on-one enrollment appointments. Students and community members can sign up for a first-come first-served appointment at the event. Students who want to set an appointment in advance or get answers to questions can call a UWM public health partner at 414-286-8620.

Coverage options can be reviewed in detail and in advance at healthcare.gov. The 2018 open enrollment window runs from Nov. 1 to Dec. 15.
