UWM conference attracts national and local women leaders

The School of Continuing Education is hosting the ninth annual Women Leaders Conference on Friday, March 2, from 9 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. at the Pfister Hotel in downtown Milwaukee. Keynote speakers are Tammy Tibbetts, social entrepreneur and founder of education nonprofit She’s the First, and Sonia Manzano, an actress and author well known for her role as Maria on “Sesame Street.”

The Women Leaders Conference celebrates women who are pioneers in their fields and uncovers their proven methods for success. Attendees discover what inspires these accomplished women leaders and how to harness that energy to empower themselves.

“This conference offers insights about current leadership trends, turning ideas into action, as well as fostering dialogue about personal growth and overcoming challenging issues we all face in the workforce,” said Brenda Mooney, the 2018 conference honorary chair.

In the opening presentation, “How to Be a Woman Who Makes History,” Tibbetts will discuss the role of her social media skills in founding her nonprofit focused on funding the education of girls around the world.

Manzano, award-winning screenwriter, actress and author, will host the luncheon presentation, “Lessons Learned from the Bronx to Sesame Street.” She’ll share an up-close look at her career and the obstacles she overcame to become one of the most influential Latinas in television.

There will be networking opportunities as well as seminars and panel discussions on changing your narrative, diversity and inclusion, wellness, innovation, leadership and service.
