UWM alumnus receives multiple honors

Havidán Rodríguez, who earned his master’s degree in sociology from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 1986, has received a number of national awards for his work in Hispanic education.

Rodríguez is currently the founding provost and executive vice president for academic affairs at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.

In June 2016, he received the 2016 Cesar Estrada Chavez Award for his work on humanitarian issues and advocacy for workers’ rights from the American Association for Access, Equity and Diversity. The previous year he received the Alfredo de los Santos Jr. Distinguished Leadership in Higher Education Award from the American Association of Hispanics in Higher Education, and was featured in the cover story for the June 2015 Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education.  The White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanics highlighted his work in the 2015 national online catalog Bright Spots in Hispanic Education.
