UWM Alumni Association to host Westlawn Community Gardens prep day

MILWAUKEE _ The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Alumni Association and supporting partners will host a prep day to get the Westlawn Community Gardens ready for spring planting on Saturday, April 29, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the corner of 62nd Street and Custer Avenue in Milwaukee.

Residents, UWM alumni and current UWM students will repair and refill garden boxes, clear garden boxes of weeds for vegetables and fruits to be planted, and plant trees and perennials around the garden edge. More than 30 participants are expected.

The event is part of the UWMAA’s Alumni Community Engagement Program, which engages alumni in service opportunities that strengthen communities while strengthening their connection to the university. The Westlawn event is one in a series of eight ACE events in 2017.

In case of inclement weather, the rain date is May 6.
