Redesigned UWM home page to debut Aug. 30

The home page of UWM’s website will soon have a new, improved look.

Launching Aug. 30, the redesigned home page will be easier to navigate, with a cleaner look and a greater focus on current and prospective students. And since so many of us – students especially – access the internet on mobile devices, the home page is designed first and foremost for that.

The modular design of the new home page will focus on key areas:

  • Promoting UWM’s standing as a top-tier research university.
  • Supporting the university’s recruitment efforts.
  • Communicating UWM’s mission of student success, research excellence and community engagement.

The first section of the page will demonstrate UWM’s excellence in research. Its stories, photos, videos and graphics will showcase the work that led the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education to designate UWM one of the nation’s top 115 research institutions.

The second section will focus on student life, with information for current and prospective students. High school seniors and others considering UWM will find information on everything from student housing to student clubs, from studying abroad to enjoying Milwaukee.

The third section will describe UWM’s impact on Wisconsin and the world, with stories about community partnerships and the success of our alumni.

Ever-changing content will keep the home page fresh even for frequent visitors, and will give prospective students a reason to keep coming back.

Intuitive design makes navigating much easier than on the current site, which is nearly five years old. All of the info you rely on now will still be there – it’ll just be easier to find. This video will walk you through it.

“I applaud the Division of University Relations and Communications for their excellent redesign work and for so effectively engaging the campus,” Chancellor Mark Mone said. “The results are vibrant pages that clearly highlight UWM and our important role as an R-1 institution. The redesigns of the home page and research page were done simultaneously in partnership with faculty, staff and administration, which I’d like to see more of.”

Along with the new home page, a new research page is being launched to showcase the depth and breadth of the work that won UWM the Carnegie recognition.

Other major pages such as admissions and academics will be redesigned in the coming months.
