Peck voice lecturer wins Sullivan Foundation award

Alisa Jordheim, a lecturer of voice at the Peck School of the Arts, has received a $12,000 award from the William Matheus Sullivan Musical Foundation.

The grant, named for Rose Bampton, a longtime member of the Sullivan foundation board, is one of 15 awarded to vocalists. Jordheim and the other recipients will also receive financial aid for musical, dramatic, vocal and language coaching for the next five years.

Jordheim joined the Peck voice faculty in fall 2015. She also maintains a robust performance career, performing both in Milwaukee and around the country. She recently played Lola in the Florentine Opera’s world premiere of “Sister Carrie” and reprised the role for the first professional recording of the work.

“Many of our students wish to cultivate careers as professional classical singers,” said Tanya Kruse, assistant professor of voice and opera and the voice area head at UWM. “Dr. Jordheim provides them a glimpse of what that looks like as well as a standard for which to strive.”

Jordheim also received a $5,000 career development grant from the foundation in 2015.
