The Mafia in Italian Lives and Literature: Life Sentences and Their Geographies

A book cover.Robin Pickering-Iazzi. University of Toronto Press, 2015.

Pickering-Iazzi, a professor in UWM’s French, Italian and Comparative Literature Department, explores perceptions of the Mafia in Italian fiction and nonfiction, be it in mystery novels, contemporary legends or online media. The book reveals a current of growing anti-Mafia sentiment in Italy, even within regions where the Mafia is most deeply ingrained. This glimpse into a criminal culture can inform considerations of crime in our own society.
