Here are 6 great places to study at UWM during finals week

Classes are wrapping up with projects, papers, presentations and exams before students head home for the summer. If you need a place to get some work done before exams start May 12, here’s a look at our favorite study spots:

Library Grind

STUDY. GRIND

The Library Grind is always bustling with people getting a caffeine fix. Whether you’re working alone or with a group, it offers a wide array of seating and tables. You don’t have to buy a beverage, but for coffee lovers, it’s perfect for sipping a cup of joe and tackling a term paper. Studying late? Chancellor Mark Mone will be here handing out snacks Thursday, May 12, from 10 p.m. to midnight.

The Library Grind will have special hours during finals week:

  • Monday, May 9, through Friday, May 13: 7:30 a.m.-8:30 p.m.
  • Saturday, May 14: noon-7 p.m.
  • Sunday, May 15: 1-7 p.m.
  • Monday, May 16, through Wednesday, May 18: 7:30 a.m.-8:30 p.m.
  • Thursday, May 19, its last day open in the spring semester: 7:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m.

Third floor of the Golda Meir Library

STUDY.2.All sciences graduate student David Gallegos3rd Floor Li

Students who study best in silence can look to the third floor of the Golda Meir Library. You may prefer to sit at a table near the stairs, or you may venture into the long rows of bookcases – which seem to stretch forever – to find quiet spots. You can always find your ideal place to finish that last class presentation.

Union Fireside Lounge

UWM Student Union Fireside Lounge.

In the midst of the bustling Student Union, stroll to the Fireside Lounge for a quiet space and comfortable, upholstered chairs. The Fireside Lounge allows you to be comfy and cozy while still being productive with your studies. Relax next to the fireplace or take a power nap to recharge before your next test.

Kenwood Interdisciplinary Research Complex Lobby

STUDY.KIRC.3

Another quiet area is the lobby of the newest building on campus, the Kenwood Interdisciplinary Research Complex (KIRC). Comfortable lounging chairs sit beside large windows overlooking Kenwood Boulevard. Whether you are taking a break, sitting between classes or studying hard for that last final, the KIRC lobby has a unique ambience.

Gasthaus

Gasthaus

If you don’t mind a little background noise, grab a bite to eat while working in the basement of the Student Union. Or reward yourself with a burger and fries after a long study session in the library. The Gasthaus’ lively atmosphere provides an enjoyable time with comfort food adding motivation to finish finals week strong on a full stomach.

Remember, things might be noisier during lunch and dinner service, and there will be special hours during finals week.

  • Monday, May 9, through Thursday, May 12: 11 a.m.-10 p.m.
  • Friday, May 13, through Sunday, May 15: 11 a.m.-8 p.m.
  • Monday, May 16: 11 a.m.-10 p.m.
  • Tuesday, May 17: 11 a.m.-7 p.m.
  • Wednesday, May 18, its last day open in the spring semester: 11 a.m.-4 p.m.

Northwest Quadrant

Restor

If you need some inspiration, head to the area outside the Grind coffee shop and Restor convenience store in the Northwest Quadrant. A colorful mural with a coffee bean theme wraps around the walls. High-top tables outside the Grind provide a place to sip a latté and enjoy the art while researching that last paper.
