Students help out on Make a Difference Day

More than 600 UW-Milwaukee students participated over the weekend in the Milwaukee Make a Difference Day.

Volunteers cleaned up city neighborhoods and helped with the basic winterization of older adults’ homes who needed assistance with raking leaves, clearing garden beds, washing windows and picking up trash.

Of the 250 homes served by volunteers in the Milwaukee area, 85 were done by UWM volunteers. Each year of the event, UWM helps at more homes than any other group.

The hours of service on Make a Difference Day will go toward the 60,000 Hours Challenge, in which students, faculty and alumni will attempt to complete 60,000 hours of community engagement during the 2016-’17 school year to mark UWM’s 60th anniversary.
