Freshwater grad turns love of Wisconsin outdoors into career

Steven DeVilbiss grew up boating, fishing and appreciating Wisconsin’s lakes. Hoping to help future generations enjoy our nation’s natural resources, DeVilbiss accepted a job as a water quality monitoring and assessment senior scientist with the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality. It’s a job UWM had him well prepared for.

“As part of the interview process, they sent me a list of questions and every one of those questions was something that I had dealt with in a course,” DeVilbiss said.

DeVilbiss, who received a master of freshwater sciences & technology degree, was one of six graduates honored during UWM’s May 2016 commencement ceremonies. More than 3,000 students received diplomas.
