Evinrude supports UWM’s School of Freshwater Sciences

Two new graduate fellowships at the UWM School of Freshwater Sciences will be supported by BRP USA, which makes powersports vehicles and propulsion systems.

The $5,000, annual fellowships will be awarded to students conducting research that will help protect and preserve the world’s fragile water resources, said Christopher Berg, global director of marketing and strategic planning at Evinrude, a PRP USA subsidiary based in Sturtevant, Wisconsin.

Creation of the BRP/Evinrude Water Research Excellence Fellowships comes on the heels of the company’s recent donation of two of its Evinrude brand outboard motors to the school for use in its research vessels.

The Evinrude E-TEC G2 engines are the cleanest combustion outboard engines available in the world. They deliver up to 20 percent more torque, up to 15 percent better fuel efficiency and up to 75 percent fewer total regulated emissions than leading competitive four-stroke engines.

The engines and fellowships are provided as part of Evinrude’s continuing support of local education and marine environment preservation, Berg said.

“The research our students conduct is vital to our way of life and would not be possible without like-minded and forward-thinking sponsors like Evinrude,” said Val Klump, associate dean of research and senior director of the school. “We thank them for their active participation in supporting our mission.”
