Donor-supported scholarships rise more than 12 percent

More than $4 million in donor-supported scholarships were awarded to University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee students in the 2015-’16 school year, a 12.6 percent increase from the year before.

In all, 1,489 students shared the $4,064,648 in scholarship money. That’s an average of $2,730 per student. The number of scholarship winners rose 10.5 percent from last year.

The most widely distributed scholarship, with 103 recipients, was the Avi Shaked and Babs Waldman Engineering Scholarship.

Next up were the Joseph and Loretta Eiserlo/Robert Kuehneisen Scholarships, with 64 recipients, and the Lubar Scholarship, awarded to 60 students.

Other leading scholarships were:

  • Frederick R. Layton Scholarship and F.R. Layton Graduate Fellowship, 47 recipients
  • Rath Foundation Merit Scholarships, 29
  • Edward and Diane Zore Honors College Scholarship, 25
  • Greater Milwaukee Foundation Dr. John H. and Cynthia A. Jackson Scholarship, 22
  • Vera Zilber Public Health Scholarship, 21.
