Cosier’s book ranked as No. 1 new release on Amazon

Amazon.com ranks Kim Cosier’s new book, “Rethinking Sexism, Gender, and Sexuality,” as a No. 1 new release. Cosier is associate dean of UWM’s Peck School of the Arts and a professor of art education.

According to the Amazon summary, Cosier’s book offers parents guidance on dealing with children when they bring home schoolbooks with racist, sexist stories – or ask questions such as: “Can a girl turn into a boy?” The book focuses on practical ways to include LGBTQ content in the curriculum, make it part of an approach to social justice, and create classrooms and schools that nurture all children and their families. Rethinking Schools is the publisher.

Cosier teaches courses for graduate and undergraduate students and supervises student teachers. She is a member of Milwaukee’s Educators’ Network for Social Justice, and works extensively in schools in the Milwaukee area.

Her research focuses on the interconnected issues of anti-racist/anti-biased teacher education, urban education, alternative education for at-risk youth and art and education for social justice.
