4th Biennial Symposium – Optical Micro-spectroscopy & Molecular Imaging

This biennial symposium provides an opportunity for researchers and representatives of small businesses to interact, present results, share ideas, and discuss future research directions in the area of two-photon micro-spectroscopy. The symposium will focus on solutions to the three major barriers blocking wide adoption of fluorescence micro-spectroscopy in academic and industrial research laboratories. First, studies using laser-scanning micro-spectroscopic systems would benefit tremendously from faster data acquisition speed. Second, the cost of such systems must decrease dramatically for this technology to be widely accepted. Third, tagging techniques must be refined such that each type of molecular imaging application has established specific standards.

This year’s symposium will consist of one and one-half days of talks and discussion sessions followed by a planning session for a potential large collaboration on quaternary structure of GPCRs in the presence and absence of cognate ligands. Symposium sessions will be held at the UWM School of Continuing Education Conference Facility, 161 W. Wisconsin Ave., Milwaukee, WI on Thursday and at the UWM Golda Meir Library, 2311 E. Hartford Ave., Milwaukee, WI on Friday morning. The collaboration planning session will be held at the Kenwood Interdisciplinary Research Center on Friday afternoon.
