UW-Milwaukee Mathematical Sciences professor Wei Wei was recently awarded a $700,975 grant for his research from the National Science Foundation.
Professor Wei, along with his co-principal investigator professor Lingfeng Wang (UW-Milwaukee College of Engineering and Applied Science), will be researching cyber security risks to the country’s power grids as well as how to make it easier to insure against such threats.
“For the past few years, people have thought that cyber risk is uninsurable,” said Wei. “It’s uninsurable because we don’t know much about the nature of the risk.”
Through the use of this grant, Wei and Wang are anticipating a heightened outlook on cyber insurance, easing cautious insurers into the exploration of this new medium.
