Goodbye, Flash Player

L&S IT plans to uninstall Adobe’s Flash Player from all computers except those in classrooms. The removal will being on Thursday, September 28th.

Flash was once an essential plug-in for content on the web. It’s been steadily replaced by newer technologies like the HTML5 players used by YouTube. Modern browsers like Chrome and Safari are blocking these plug-ins altogether due to the frequent security issues they cause. Viruses, phishing pop-ups, and fraud sites frequently use bugs in Flash to infect computers and steal personal information.

Removing old copies of the Flash plug-in will make everyone safer, and you shouldn’t even notice that they’re gone. For old content that requires Flash, you will still be able to use it in browsers that haven’t disabled those features.

If you have problems with Flash content after the removal, please contact the IT Office using our Request Support form.
