“You’re Booked:  The World of Handmade Books”
Books are the vessels and artifacts for both visual and written expressions. Come and create a wonderful array of books using both traditional and experimental book structures incorporating eastern and western influences. We’ll begin with making paste papers and proceed to a multitude of structures, from pamphlet to codex. This workshop is designed for teachers, writers, artists, students, and anyone who loves to create a richer and expansive vocabulary for their work.

Saturday & Sunday, October 13-14, 10am-4 pm, 2007 at Woodland Pattern Book Center (720 E. Locust St., Milwaukee; 414.253.5001)

$90/$85 members, materials included.

“The Carousel Book”
A carousel book is an ingenious work, containing three-dimensional panoramic scenes that are revealed in multi-layered openings that recede into space.  Its seductiveness comes as a result of its construction, a series of five scenes, which when taken together are a play in five acts. When fully opened it creates a full 180 degrees stage, which from an aerial perspective can be seen as a complex star, with the viewer performing a dance around it.
