Slovenian Music Collection
The UWM Music Library houses the Slovenian Music Collection, an extensive collection of the music of contemporary Slovenian composers. The collection has been acquired through the Library’s Frank and Mary Ermenc Endowment.
Most scores, parts and recordings are searchable in Search@UW; however, this collection also includes many choral arrangements of Slovenian folk music in multiple copies which are not listed in the online catalog. There is an online inventory available. For further assistance, please contact the Music Library through AskMusic or inquire in-person at the Music Library Service Counter.
The Golda Meir Library also holds the Juan Crisostomo Arriaga collection of scores and recordings, a gift from the Arriaga Society of America and Dr. Alan Pedigo. Some of this material is in print form, some is on microfilm, and a few titles are located in the Library’s Special Collections department. A Finding Aid to the Arriaga Collection is available from the Library’s Archives Department at http://digital.library.wisc.edu/1711.dl/wiarchives.uw-mil-uwmmss0007.
Fine Arts Quartet & Leonard Sorkin Manuscript Collection
The history of the Fine Arts Quartet, UWM’s resident string quartet, is well documented through the materials of founding member Leonard Sorkin. These materials are primarily housed in the Archives Department, though musical scores in performable condition were integrated into the Music Library holdings and can be found by searching Search@UW. A Finding Aid to the materials housed by Archives is available at http://digital.library.wisc.edu/1711.dl/wiarchives.uw-mil-uwmmss0030.
