Map Society of Wisconsin Talk: “Historic GIS at the American Geographical Society Library”

May 16 @ 2:30 PM - 4:00 PM

Map Society imageA presentation by Belle Lipton, AGS Library GIS student intern and UWM graduate student.

Learn how web mapping projects at the AGSL breathe new life into old materials. Seamlessly explore all of 1910 Milwaukee with our new Sanborn mapping application, and travel to the fjords of Greenland to immerse yourself in arctic exploration in the 1930’s.

This talk will address the library’s need for these digital humanities projects, and how they were created. You will be able to engage with the web maps and the historic items involved in their creation (manuscripts, maps, and photos).
