Friends of the Golda Meir Library Members-Only Tour of Historic Milwaukee Home
October 1 @ 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM
Become a Friend of the UWM Golda Meir Library, and join us for a special members-only tour of the historic Becker-Fitch home on Milwaukee’s east side.
When: Sunday, October 1, 2017, 2 pm – 5 pm
Where: 2344 E. Back Bay, Milwaukee, WI
- Tour the Becker-Fitch House, a French provincial chateau style home designed in 1895 by William D. Kimball, boasting a gorgeous living room and ballroom, among its many architectural delights. The home’s most unusual feature, a 1923 addition, is a two-story entertainment space that recalls a 17th century Irish pub. Accessed via a spiral staircase hidden behind a living room panel, the “Tavern Room” served as a speakeasy during Prohibition.
- Enjoy light refreshments, participate in a cork pull filled with fabulous wines, or bid in a silent auction for an original French WWI poster from the collection of the home’s second owner, Harriet Earling Fitch.
- View rare and unique items from the holdings of the Golda Meir Library.
