Doors Open Milwaukee

The UWM Libraries will join Doors Open Milwaukee on Sunday, September 24, 2017 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Visit three outstanding collections located in the UWM Golda Meir Library and view some of their rare and fascinating treasures.
The internationally-renowned American Geographical Society Library, formed in the early 1850s to promote the collection and diffusion of geographical and statistical information, is one of the premier collections of its kind in North American, containing over 1.3 million items dating from 1452, including maps, atlases, globes, books, periodicals, and photographs. AGSL will have a variety of cartographic treasures from their collections on display.
The UWM Archives features the history of the Milwaukee region. With 2017 marking the 50th anniversary of Milwaukee’s 200 consecutive nights of Fair Housing marches, the UWM Archives will highlight documents of the movement including the papers of James Groppi, Vel Phillips, and Lloyd Barbee. NOTE: The Archives will be open from 12 p.m to 5 p.m.
Special Collections holds over 70,000 printed materials from the 15th century to the present, covering a wide range of disciplines and topics. During Doors Open Milwaukee they will offer a sampling, from early printed books to contemporary publications, and from fine press and artist’s books and to comic books and zines.
