The Browsing Collection consists of a sampling of recently acquired books. It is located in the Media and Reserve Library, lower level, west wing.
Small carts and baskets for the easy conveyance of library materials are available inside the entrances of the second and third floor reading rooms in the west wing.
Computer stations There are Internet-ready computers available to the general public in the Daniel M. Soref Learning Commons on the first floor, west wing of the library. Several other catalog lookup stations and research terminals are placed throughout the library.
Laptop checkout Free laptop and checkout for UWM students, faculty and staff is available from the Libraries’ Media and Reserve Library on the lower level, west wing. The Media and Reserve Library also offers a wealth of other services, including digital video camera checkout, media viewing rooms, and a recording booth.
The Grind, located in the Daniel M. Soref Learning Commons (first floor, west wing), serves Colectivo coffee drinks, teas, juices, and bakery items, and offers comfortable seating and wireless access.
Headphones for library use are available for checkout in the Music Library, located on the second floor, east wing. The Music Library also offers over a thousand CDs of popular, classical, and world music for checkout. The Media and Reserve Library, located on the lower level, west wing, checks out headphones for 2 days and has thousands of feature films and documentaries on DVD and videotape for checkout.
Free public lockers are provided throughout the building so that users may safeguard their possessions while studying in the UWM Libraries. Lockers can be found in the lower level, west wing, on the first and second floors, and on the second and third floors of the west wing, off the stairwell.
PASS (Panther Academic Support Services)
There are two PASS areas located in the library: Tutoring Center, first floor, east wing; and study groups, located in the Daniel M. Soref Learning Commons. For more information about tutoring, please visit the PASS website.
Photocopiers are located throughout the library building (see floor plans). Black and white copies are 15 cents per exposure for the standard 8½ x 11 single sided copy; color copies are 35 cents. All copiers take a copy card and five copiers will also accept bills and coins. Three of the copy machines provide the option to scan materials as well as copy in color. These machines are located the Media and Reserve Library, and the Daniel M. Soref Learning Commons. Printers for Microtext materials are also available. Microtext copies cost 25 cents each and require the use of a copy card. The Microforms area has digital microform scanning equipment as well.
In addition, there are four flatbed scanners available in the Daniel M. Soref Learning Commons. There is no charge for scanning. Several printers are available in the Daniel M. Soref Learning Commons and the Media and Reserve Library.
Printing from an electronic format or online resource requires the use of a print card. Printing costs 6 cents per sheet of paper and all printing is done duplex.
Print cards are available from machines located in the first floor, west wing lobby and lower level, west wing. The initial cost of $1 includes the card and $1 worth of copying. Once the card is purchased, it can be kept and reused by encoding it with even-dollar amounts from the same machine.
The Libraries hosts a variety of events and exhibits each year, including the Friends of the Golda Meir Library Used Book Sale, the Holzheimer Maps and America Lecture, and the Fromkin Memorial Lecture on Social Justice. All are free and open to the public.
Restrooms are located in the Daniel M. Soref Learning Commons; off the main stairwell on the lower level, second floor, and third floor of the west wing; on the first, second, and third floors of the east wing; and on the fourth floor.

Study areas (group/quiet/carrels)
Study areas can be found throughout the building.
Group study areas are available in the lower level walkway and first floor west wing. Group room reservations are available online.
Carrels are available for faculty, staff and graduate students on a limited, first-come, first-served basis. Carrel assignments are made for a semester. Applications are available at the Main Circulation Desk. For more information, see carrel policy.
The Scriptorium for Dissertators is also available for people working on their thesis.
Wireless access to the Internet is available in most public areas of the library building. For more information, see UWM WiFi.
