Look Here! Project Asks Artists to Reimagine Objects in UWM Libraries Digital Collections

The Look Here! initiative is a pilot project initiated by the UWM Libraries that asks artists to create projects that reimagine, transform, and engage with the objects in our collections, especially our Digital Collections, in ways that were unimagined before the digital turn.

During this pilot year, we are working with ten artists from RedLine Community Art Studio and Peck School of the Arts to do just that. The project will culminate in the spring and summer of 2018 with two events:

  • A panel discussion between the artists and curators, where the artists will explore their process and guide the Libraries in further developing best practices for digitizing, describing, and delivering digital collections for artists and other researchers. (late Spring 2018)
  • An exhibit, installed and hosted at the Villa Terrace Decorative Arts Museum, will make the work the artists produce for the project available to the general public and provide an opportunity to showcase our own archival, special, and digital collections alongside the works they inspired. (June-September 2018)

Interviews with the artists will be published monthly. The first interview, with Marc Tasman and Clayton Haggarty, is now available. Check the Look Here! site for news about related events and samples from the collections.
