We are very sad to announce the death of David Fromkin, a longtime supporter of the UWM Libraries, on June 11 in New York City.

Fromkin—along with his late mother Selma Strelsin Fromkin, and his sisters, Sari Fromkin Magaziner and Marcia Fromkin Prester, who survive him—established the Morris Fromkin Grant and Lectureship at the UWM Libraries in 1970 in memory of his father. The lecture, devoted to issues of social justice, is the longest-running lecture series at UWM.

David Fromkin was a professor at Boston University for nearly 20 years and was author of seven books including A Peace to End All Peace (1989), which was a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award.

His obituary appeared in the New York Times on June 15: https://www.nytimes.com/2017/06/15/world/middleeast/obituary-david-fromkin-dead-middle-east-author.html
