Archives & Special Collections
The UWM Libraries house the largest collection of LGBT historical and contemporary materials in Wisconsin, providing a rich record of Milwaukee’s LGBT movement that is accessible to students, faculty, and the general public. The collection provides a window into the personal struggles and triumphs of individuals within the various LGBT communities.
LGBT Studies Certificate Program
UWM is the only campus in the state of Wisconsin with an LGBT Studies Program that offers its own courses. Our program attracts hundreds of students who wish to explore sexual orientation and gender identity in depth. The program is interdisciplinary, and over a dozen affiliated departments have offered classes. Students can complete a Certificate in LGBT Studies to indicate to future employers their expertise in working with LGBT populations in social services, business, health care, public affairs, and other careers.
Milwaukee LGBT Film/Video Festival
The UWM Film Department hosts the Milwaukee LGBT Film/Video Festival, which is one of the longest-running international film festivals in the region. The Festival shares films both edifying and entertaining (often local premieres in their only Milwaukee engagement) that attract people from across campus and the community.
