Hello, my name is Gary Cooper-Sperber and I am a two-time UWM alumnus (B.S. in Educational Studies-Youth Leadership in 2010 and M.S. Administrative Leadership-Higher Education Administration in 2012).
I am responsible for providing academic and career advising to all freshmen students, with a focus on African American students. I will assist you with transitioning to university life, understanding academic program requirements, and provide you with advice on your progress. As someone who has successfully navigated the world of higher education as a first-generation, Pell Grant college student, I want to share my knowledge and experiences in order to best prepare you on the journey through UWM and to equally learn from you as well.
I also firmly believe in taking advantage of services and opportunities that exists on- and off-campus. As a student, I was involved in student organizations, did community volunteer work, researched scholarships, and participated in internships. I encourage you to become involved on campus and in the community to further enrich your college experience and encourage you to participate in relevant experiences that will assist you after you graduate. I look forward to assisting you on your journey here at UWM!
