Congratulations to Peter Y. Paik, associate professor of comparative literature, whose article “The Death of Horror: On Kiyoshi Kurosawa’s Cure” was published in Situations: Cultural Studies in the Asian Context, vol. 9, no. 2, 2016. The essay, which appears in a special volume on Horror and the Global for which Paik was also a Guest Editor, makes the case that Cure, which depicts the loss of the capacity to feel horror at acts of violence, anticipates recent trends in horror film.

Congratulations as well to Kristin E. Pitt, associate professor of comparative literature, whose article “The Vulnerable Harvest: Farmworkers, Food, and Immigration in the Contemporary United States” was published in Aztlán: A Journal of Chicano Studies, vol. 41, no. 2, Fall 2016, pp. 13-36. In this essay, she examines the poetics of vulnerability depicted in two recent artistic representations of migrant dairy labor in Vermont: Julia Alvarez’s young adult novel Return to Sender (2009) and Caleb Kenna and Chris Urban’s exhibition The Golden Cage: Mexican Migrant Workers and Vermont Dairy Farmers (2008).
