Congratulations to Caroline Seymour-Jorn, whose translation of Ibtihal Salem’s novel A Small Box in the Heart is now available through UWM’s digital commons. This fictional history of a woman’s life and experiences in Egypt in the decades leading up to the 2011 Arab Spring is available in a digital format that includes some of Prof. Seymour-Jorn’s own photography from Egypt as well as other valuable digital context, such as links to several of the popular songs referenced in the novel. And it’s free!

Also of note: A Small Box in the Heart is one of the readings included in Prof. Seymour-Jorn’s Fall 2016 course COMPLIT 340, Studies in Literary Genres and Modes: Mystery and Identity in the Middle East. This is an intensive online course, beginning October 24, allows students to earn a full 3 credits in only 8 weeks, and is open to juniors, seniors, and graduate students. Seats are still available!
