Students who do not meet the declaration requirements listed above may go through the appeals process to seek admission to the JAMS major or minor.
Preparing the Admissions Appeal
Appeals must have the following four parts in order:
- An Appeal Form;
- An unofficial UWM transcript including grades from the semester immediately preceding the semester in which the applicant hopes to be a JAMS major or minor;
- A current résumé;
- A written statement outlining not only the applicant’s academic interests and career goals, but also why the applicant did not meet declaration requirements.
One copy of the full appeal must be submitted at least two weeks before the beginning of the semester in which the applicant hopes to be a JAMS major or minor. Appeals can either be dropped off during business hours in the JAMS Main Office (Bolton 510B) or emailed to the JAMS Academic Department Associate, Anna M Kupiecki, at email@example.com. Please do not staple materials or submit samples of your work or additional materials. The JAMS Undergraduate Committee will contact you if anything is needed.
NOTE: The JAMS department does not declare new majors/minors during the week before classes begin in the fall or spring semesters or during the first two weeks of those semesters.
Notification of Decisions About Appeals
Students who submitted appeals will be notified, via their UWM email, of the committee’s decision on their appeals. Students whose appeals are successful will become majors or minors after they have completed the appropriate forms in the JAMS Main Office (Bolton 510B). We then recommend they meet with their assigned faculty advisor to plan out their time in JAMS.
