The Institutional Review Board (IRB) reviews all human subjects research conducted by UWM faculty, staff, and students. It makes decisions based on the ethical principles in the Belmont Report and Declaration of Helsinki, as well as ensuring that research complies with the Code of Federal Regulations, Wisconsin State Laws, and UWM Policies.

The IRB is made up of UWM faculty, staff, students, and community representatives. IRB Office staff support the IRB.
