Leadership Track Seminars (All seminars will be held in Union 240)

Identity Crisis- Race, Culture, Religion or Gender? (Friday, 11:00 am -12:50 pm)

In this leadership track we will discuss each identity and how they can work together for or against student success. Students will explore different media forms to discuss how self and social identities are affected and how media silently influences our words, actions and behavior. Students will critical analyze society perspectives on all their identities, find creative solutions to thrive in society while remaining true to their true, authentic self and continue to grow.

From Surviving to Thriving: Creating Safe and Brave Spaces on Campus (Friday, 3:00 – 4:50 pm)

For students of color, matriculating at a Predominately White Institution (PWI) can be met with frustration and anxiety especially when navigating the waters of leadership. In this session, student leaders will have an opportunity to share their feelings, thoughts and ideas on supports that are needed socially and academically to be effective leaders on campus as well as in the community. Students will discuss the challenges of creating meaningful change within multiple identities on a PWI, share their experiences and thoughts on creating a supportive environment conducive to success, and learn strategies to reaffirm their leadership roles and abilities.

SOARing: Having Productive Conversations with People from Different Perspectives (Saturday, 11:00 am – 12:50 pm)

Perspective is EVERYTHING; however, in leadership, there will be times where communication and collaboration is needed from people who do not share the same viewpoint. In this session, students will further explore the SOAR (Strengths, Opportunities, Aspirations, Results) analysis strategy to generated sustainable, results-driven outcomes in their respective leadership positions while building and maintaining rapport within their organizations.

Call to Action: Moving Beyond the Barriers (Saturday, 3:00 – 3:50 pm)

Using the tools gained from the day, students will co-create a call to action to begin to shift the culture on their respective campuses and empower each other to move forward.
