2017 Melvin Lurie Award Ceremony

We had a great 30th annual Lurie Ceremony this fall. Chancellor Mone and much of the Lurie family was in attendance as we presented the Melvin Lurie Student Award to Mary Griefenkamp. Mary earned her MHRLR degree 28 years after her UWM B.A. in History. It followed the realization that after twenty years in human resources she needed the graduate degree to advance, to learn and to gain broader perspective. Mary currently works as Global Compensation Manager for Sensient Technologies Corporation, a company with 4000 employees worldwide.

The 20th Annual Melvin Lurie Labor-Management Cooperation Prize was jointly given to the Milwaukee Bucks and the Alliance for Good Jobs. These partners signed a community benefits agreement with remarkable scope involving not just construction jobs, but on-going jobs in and around the arena. It includes livable wages, the opportunity to unionize in a neutral environment and guarantees jobs to those in some of Milwaukee’s poorest neighborhoods.

We learned lots – join us next year!
