Winter Break

All University Housing buildings will remain open for the duration of Winter Break.

This page contains information for students in all University Housing buildings. Please read on to learn more about how you may be affected.

Winter Break Key Dates

Dec. 11 – 24-Hour Quiet Hours Begin at 10 PM
Dec. 12 – Study Day
Dec. 13-20 – FINALS
Dec. 20 – Contracts Expire at 12 PM (for those students not returning to University Housing in Spring Semester)
Jan. 5 – UWinteriM Classes Begin
Jan. 19 – University Closed in Observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
Jan. 22 – UWinteriM Classes Conclude

Jan. 26 – First day of Spring Semester

General Instructions – All University Housing Buildings

  • There is a MANDATORY Community Meeting (see your RA for time / location)
  • To conserve energy, please turn off all lights and unplug ALL electronics from wall sockets.
  • Lock your individual room and suite doors when you leave for Winter Break.
  • During this break, each suite bathroom will be cleaned by University Housing Staff. Remove all personal belongings from the bathroom (including shampoos, soaps, toothpastes, etc.) prior to your departure from the building. If University Housing has to remove any items, you will be charged with a $25 fee. University Housing is NOT responsible for lost/damaged items.
  • Terminations (if you are not returning to your space for Spring Semester):
    • Schedule an appointment with your RA to checkout before you leave. ($75 fee for not checking out)
    • If you need to leave after December 20th, you must complete a Late Departure Request.
  • There are significantly reduced hours in all restaurant operations facilities during the Winter Break (including Restor+More). Consult individual outlets for their specific times.
  • If you do not have a roommate in a double room, you should have all items moved to one side of the room prior to your departure.
  • While University Housing buildings remain open over Winter Break, many services or individual offices have limited services available. Students or families who need assistance during break should call the Sandburg Service Desk (414) 229-6123 for 24-hour service.

Instructions for Cambridge Commons

Cambridge Commons will remain open during Winter Break.

  • Clean your refrigerator before leaving over break.
  • All Floors: If you are leaving for portions of break, leave your windows closed and locked, but leave your blinds open to assist UWMPD in Safety and Security procedures over break.
  • Leave your heat/thermostat turned ON.

Instructions for Purin Hall

Purin will remain open during Winter Break.

  • Clean your refrigerator.
  • Floor 1: Close and lock windows. Leave blinds closed so that individuals standing outside on street level cannot see into vacant rooms.
  • Floors 2-3: Close and lock windows. Leave blinds open to assist UWMPD in Safety and Security procedures over break.

Instructions for Riverview

  • Unplug, clean, and defrost your refrigerator before leaving over break.
  • Floors 2-3: Close and lock windows. Leave your blinds closed so that individuals standing outside on street and terrace levels cannot see into vacant rooms.
  • Floors 4-7: Close and lock windows. Leave your blinds open to assist UWMPD in Safety and Security procedures over break.
  • Leave your heat/thermostat turned ON.

Instructions for Sandburg East

Sandburg will remain open during Winter Break.

  • Clean your refrigerator.
  • Leave your heat/thermostat turned ON.

Instructions for Sandburg North

Sandburg will remain open during Winter Break.

  • Unplug, clean, and defrost your refrigerator.

Instructions for Sandburg South

Sandburg will remain open during Winter Break.
