Honors Anthropology Goes to the UWM Hoop House

Honors students learning about environmental anthropology in “The Social Life of Seeds” course undertook a practicum on seed saving heirloom tomato varieties this February. Classmate Angela Beling used her grandmother’s recipes to turn the remaining tomato rinds into three tasty salsas that the class shared together.  In March, they went to the UWM Hoop House, where classmate Kira Church explained her work with campus sustainability, maintaining the organic compost heaps that change vegetable food scraps from cafeteria kitchens into rich soils, which they used to plant their seeds.
